found this interesting quote from Abraham Lincoln, following the Civil War, and shortly before his death :
“We may congratulate ourselves that this cruel war is nearing its end. It has cost a vast amount of treasure and blood. . . . It has indeed been a trying hour for the Republic; but I see in the near future a crisis approaching that unnerves me and causes me to tremble for the safety of my country. As a result of the war, corporations have been enthroned and an era of corruption in high places will follow, and the money power of the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by working upon the prejudices of the people until all wealth is aggregated in a few hands and the Republic is destroyed. I feel at this moment more anxiety for the safety of my country than ever before, even in the midst of war. God grant that my suspicions may prove groundless.”
hmmm. followed directly by 36 hours of silence. typical.
wow three posts in a single day!
the police here in norfolk are trying to see if scare tactics work. today on my way to work, i noticed 4 cop cars, void of any police officer, sitting in the usual, sneaky cop places. so now, on my way to and from lunch, i notice that the radar guns are on, and printing a report. i assume this means they’re seeing if empty cop cars are as effective as a manned car, in slowing people down near schools. or something.
ok, on my way to work this morning i experienced a few, well, oddities. #1 i earnestly believe i saw j.j. walker riding a bicycle thru downtown norfolk. DYNOMITE!!! #2 as i was listening to the morning shock jock radio show i usually listen to, i found an end to funny bathroom humor, it was the “see who can pee the longest” contest. that is the logical end to bathroom humor being funny.
well yet again the state of nebraska’s residents make me want to move:
stanton county, nebraska. a local farmer reported his pickup truck stolen, and the full 400 gallon fuel tank that it carries along with it. it ends up to have been stolen by a few teenage kids, who kindly gave the fuel to any and all of their classmates, and friends, who needed a fill-up. much to the “gas price liberator’s” dismay, none of the vehicles refueled by them would run properly. as, fortunately for the law enforcement, the tank, was filled with diesel fuel. making it very easy to identify who’d recieved the stolen goods.
