stuff and things and stuff

now i’m 3 degrees from the creator of orkut.

also, i’m watching Johnny English tonite, with full expectation that it’ll suck. maybe more on that later. speaking of movies, expect a review of Solaris sometime soon. maybe if Johnny English sucks enough, I’ll combine them.

FOAF

So today marks the first time ever that I’ve been invited to join an elite organization. Orkut is a social networking site, in the style of Friendster. The difference is that Orkut was created by some guy at Google. So if google=cool then orkut=somewhatinteresting, at least in my mind.

I’m going to play around with it for a while and see if I can find any actual use for it. Though I guess there is a certain esteem-building factor to finding you’re 3 degrees from … well, certainly someone important must be 3 degrees from me.

So I sent invites to all of my cool friends (sorry Kate). Remember it’s an elite organization. Wear shoes and no cussing!

Microsoft & Malicious Hyperlinks

Steps that you can take to help identify and to help protect yourself from deceptive (spoofed) Web sites and malicious hyperlinks [via Microsoft]

The most effective step that you can take to help protect yourself from malicious hyperlinks is not to click them. Rather, type the URL of your intended destination in the address bar yourself. By manually typing the URL in the address bar, you can verify the information that Internet Explorer uses to access the destination Web site.

Silly. All of this instead of patching their software?

What we were missing.

Nit-Pickers Guide to The Lord of the Rings. Very nice. It lists all (well, as far as I can tell) of the deviations the movies made from the book.
