Long Week

I got a call from my mom this afternoon. My dad’s been taken to the hospital because he’s been having chest pains. They have him on some medication to keep his blood pressure down, and he’s feeling a little better, but they’re still going to take him to Sioux City as they think this is probably the beginning of a heart attack.

Prayers are always appreciated.

Update: Did an angiogram (I think) this morning and the doctors decided not to do anything. Somehow a new ‘channel’ has opened up for the blood to go through, so diet and exercise are being recommended instead of more surgery.

Life Insurance

Sitting at my desk, minding my own business, working. Matt walks in the door in the next room, sees me, and tells someone standing outside: “Here he is, he never left.”

“Why would I leave?” I ask.

That’s when I learn about the gas leak and the building evacuation.

Apparently the construction crew out on 4th street hit a gas line. In my office, I can’t smell it, but when I go out into the hallway it’s pretty overpowering.

So that’s how my day’s gone. How’s yours?

He’s no dandy.

Just a one finger victory salute. Children! Avert your eyes!

Fiber to your house. (currently in beta … er ‘trial mode’)

Electoral Vote Predictor (to the left, as well)

Faith Inkubators (dunno about them, their site is nice)

Drink Tea, Slow Alzheimers (good enough reason for me)

Never watch “League of Extraordinary Gentlemen”. (I’m serious)

Hobbits Found (and amongst the rubbish, a gem: “…many anthropologists have argued that in recent years, scientists have been adding too many new species to the human evolutionary tree. They say scientists have become too quick to call what may simply be an unusual individual a member of a whole new species.”)

Wikinews

The Wikimedia Foundation (creators of Wikipedia & more) are contemplating a new branch: Wikinews. In their words:

We seek to create a free source of news, where every human being is invited to contribute reports about events large and small, either from direct experience, or summarized from elsewhere. Wikinews is founded on the idea that we want to create something new, rather than destroy something old. It is founded on the belief that we can, together, build a great and unique resource which will enrich the media landscape.
