I love my Mac.

I’m sorry, I’ve just got to gush. I’m playing with iMovie HD this afternoon, and the things I’m doing would make a comparatively priced PC choke to death in seconds. Scrubbing video (where you just take the ‘progress indicator’ and scroll back and forth with it to find a specific location or to preview motion) is absolutely amazing. While the video resolution isn’t all that great (my Sony Camcorder only puts out around 640×480), the system handles it much better than any PC I’ve ever used. And I paid $800 for this thing over a year and a half ago. I still can’t figure out why nobody else uses a Mac. Except for you, Jessica. You’re cool. :D

    hell yes i am cool.

after about 3 days of owning this, steven went ahead and opened about 10 programs one right after another just for kicks and was quite jovial to NOT have the computer crash. i think it may have come close to crashing once while he was working on some video stuff, but if we had an additional hard drive, it would have solved that problem.

the one we got i think ended up being about the same price as yours too, mark.

im not sure if jovial was the correct word to use, but it felt right. so say it. yo.

Heh. I wanted to see how many programs I could run before things became inoperable. Let’s just say that I couldn’t think of more than 28 programs that I actually use. Dock, Desktop. Sorry about the non-screenshot-screenshot, but I don’t know how to take a screenshot while Expose is in use.

Here’s a list of what’s running (from left to right on the dock. Quicksilver was running too, but it doesn’t run in the dock.)

    Finder
    Smultron (Text Editor)
    NetNewsWire (RSS Reader)
    Mail
    Safari
    OmniWeb
    Firefox
    MSN Messenger
    Adium
    iTunes (Playing)
    iPhoto
    iMovie HD (Editing Movie)
    Word
    iCal
    Address Book
System Preferences (I know, not really a program. :D)
    Photoshop
    Delicious Library
    Keynote
Virtual PC (Running Windows 2000 and Firefox - 5 open tabs)
    TextWrangler
    Skype
    Quicktime
    Excel
    Cyberduck (FTP Client)
    Colloquy (IRC Client)
    Bit Torrent
    TerraBrowser
    VLC (Playing an MST3K Episode)

    So yeah. That was fun.

NOOOOOOO! I forgot Terminal! Ah well. I don’t think 29 programs will really make much difference. :D

not to argue with a mac addict (’cuz it’s like winning the special olympics - even if you win you’re still retarded - no disrespect to those participants) but I just built a P4 machine and found that it really is all about the software… Sony Vegas (sony acquired ACID’s software suite) 5.0 and I don’t know how everything about it compares but as far as “scrubbing” is concerned - it has no problem at all with the video files that I handle.
But Mark, I’m glad you’re able to find happiness with your Mac. Best Wishes.

Oh, I’ll definitely agree that the software is what makes the difference. The hardware’s nice and all, but unless you want to drop $3k+ you’re not going to get a Mac that’s on the same playing field (hardware-wise) with today’s PCs. I’m not talking MHz (or GHz) - anyone who still does comparisons based upon clock speed needs to wake up and smell their single core burning - but there are other areas where the lower priced Macs are certainly lacking.

It’s all in the software. And in this case, OS X absolutely obliterates the competition.

i once had a monkey to take notes for me in class!
i would just sit there with my mind a complete blank, and the monkey would scribble notes on little pieces of paper.
at the end of the week the teacher said “alright class i’d like you to write a paper using your notes.”
i wrote a paper that said “Hello! My name is Bingo! I like to climb on things can i have a banana? eek eek!”

i got an F! I told my mom about it and she said…
“i told you never to trust a monkey!”
    the end!

I always like the “everyone needs a mac ’cause of no spyware, viruses, etc.”

    http://software.silicon.com/os/0,39024651,39128858,00.htm

“All sophisticated platforms - Mac, Linux, Solaris or anything else - will have vulnerabilities,” Biviano said. “The only reason Windows has had mass exploits written for it is the sheer number of connected devices that are present on most networks. As soon as you start seeing mass deployment of any technology you are going to see exploits.”

    My new nephew here yet????

The source of such dire predictions? None other than Symantec, the world’s most prominent maker of anti-virus software.

I’ll agree that as market share for Macs increase so will the virus and exploit attempts. But as far as security is concerned, there’s absolutely no comparison between Windows and OS X. Windows is inherently insecure *by design*. As soon as Microsoft removes ActiveX, I’ll gladly eat those words. Indeed, with relish, to make a cringe-worthy pun.

This comment was written on a Mac that has been constantly connected to the internet since June of 2003. Without, I might add, any anti-virus or anti-spyware software installed. Try that with a vanilla Windows install.

Oh, and no new nephew. I’ve heard rumor that he likes it in there, has no plans of coming out, and that he’s been soliciting his siblings to move back in, so as to help pass the time.

Really hot canadian!: uhhhhhhhh, ok. (iSweaty!?!?)
