sir alfred came to visit this morning

as i drove up to my office today, the grounds were covered in a blanket of darkness. a moving, living, blanket of blackbirds. thousands of them.
seriously, to the point the grass was no longer visible. and me without my digital camera. i tried to grab the office camera but it appears someone else had snagged it already. my only hope for photographic evidence is if one of my coworkers decided it worthy of pictures…
it was pretty interesting.
so how was your morning?

sleep and awards.

yesterday i fell asleep on my porch swing. only for about 20 minutes, but it was wonderful. no allergies, no uncomfortable temperatures, nothing. just me outside asleep. like it should be (for some reason or another). it’s so weird to think that, say, 200 years ago, people were probably roaming the land that the house i currently live in is on, sleeping outside on a regular basis, surviving for the most part.

i got an award for work at a conference last week. i got to walk up in front of everyone in my upholstery skirt of hideousness and get my picture taken and be given $100 and plaque saying how much i kick ass at being a slave. something to show the grandkids cause the $100 sure won’t be around. the most amusing thing in the whole ordeal is the call i got this morning at work asking me for the name of my hometown and the newspaper there. i know mom will get a kick out of that.

Hurricane Conspiracy!

Ok, if it’s not global warming, what is it? “This guy’s”:http://www.journalnet.com/articles/2005/09/23/news/local/news05.txt blaming the Yakuza??? I don’t think even _my_ overactive imagination can stretch that far. Someone take away his pulp sci-fi.

On a slightly more serious note, “here’s”:http://edition.cnn.com/2005/TECH/science/09/23/hurricane.cycle/ an official with the National Hurricane Center claiming that the “sudden increase” of giant hurricanes is an _entirely natural occurence_, part of a known cycle even. [”more”:http://livescience.com/forcesofnature/050831_hurricane_freq.html] Somebody better tell the hippies. :D

Capitalism at it’s finest.

So I’ve been “over here”:http://buzz.research.yahoo.com/bk/index.html investing in Hurricane Rita. I’ve been intrigued for the past week with virtual exchanges like this. I figure it’s better than trading stock in illicit drugs, like I’ve done in the past. A tad more realistic too, with the market being influenced by reality instead of a fake storyline.

Unless, that is, you consider popular news items to be a “fake storyline”, which I’m not ready to rule out.

*Update:* Cashed in on “Rita”:http://buzz.research.yahoo.com/bk/market/market.html?_mid=28944&_ono=11, bought some “Katrina”:http://buzz.research.yahoo.com/bk/market/market.html?_mid=28944&_ono=5 due to it bottoming out. Dumped the Katrina after making $160, and after chiding myself for being such a pansy, re-invested in Rita because it started climbing again.
