first jessica moved to nashville. then i moved to grand island. then jimifred to minnesota. and finally mark to south dakota.

but that has nothing to do with this little post. i’d like to tell the tale of the past eight months of my life.

november 2006, i guess i should preface the story with some more *ancient* history- my entire position with the college was built upon mistrust between two upper level management positions. the dean of educational services, and the it manager. long ago, the dean was the it manager, and still feels like he can do the job better. and maybe he can… so 6 years ago, i’m hired as the “campus” technician, not employed by the IT department, so i’m not bound by their “all locations are treated the same” mentality. this proves to be a rocky relationship, and i’m found playing politics frequently. fast forward back to november, wait. how about june. yeah, june 2006, i hear rumours that a “consolidation” is imminent, and i’ll be moved under the IT department. august - november breeze by with no more talking of said merger. november 4th, i’m asked by my boss to relocate offices, out of the administration building(which houses the IT department) and back to a room, that’s little more than a closet, in the distance learning/video classroom section of the campus building.  with this relocation, comes a few new responsibilities, i’m in “charge” of being the secondary support person to the Media Services team, who provide support to the technology that provides our remote video based instruction. i’m also asked during this time to assist with media production, web/video/printed media, as the media producer is swamped.

february 2007, i’m hearing mumblings again, that the “merger” is being considered. then nothing.

march 2007. a week before my birthday, i’m brought to a “pop up powow” with the IT manager, my boss (the dean), the hastings campus dean, and several other “power players”. it’s announced that i’ll be merged with IT services, but that little will change in my job duties overall.

april 2007. while away in omaha at a convention, the “deed is done” and i become a full fledged member of IT Services. still unsure if that’s good or bad. i’m told to relocate my office asap. (an empty cubicle is available)

late april 2007. i’m told i’ll be made the “Web Services Administrator” (fancy title eh?) i commence my reign of dominance over the .cccneb.edu domain…

june 2007. our network admin accepts a position for another company. we’re all asked to chip in, and carry the load until the position is filled.

late june 2007. we’re told the college will not be replacing the network admin, because the IT department is “up a person” due to my consolidation. my new boss informs me that we’ll be shifting responsibilities to make the college network run properly, and that there will be two people in charge of the network, as was previously. this doesn’t bode well for my “reign”…

july 2007. i’m asked to assume the position of desktop technician for the grand island campus, and the administration. (here marks the end of my lordship over the web) as a consolation prize, i’m told that my administration of the online learning services will remain intact. (que sir robin’s minstrels - yay) this brings me to the meat of this enormously long post…

8 months. 4 offices. 3 jobs. almost completely full circle… because what i didn’t mention, is that this desk i’m sitting at currently, whilst typing to you? is less than 10 feet from the desk i occupied in october. same room, different side…

i’ll let you know if the view is better or not.

takin’ the fire escape.

up to the roof.

anyone miss me? (would you admit it if you did?)
